Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
