Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
